High-bay racking, shipping container, tyre hotel or mobile tyre racking system: the comparison

No warehouse to build, no industrial trucks, no dismantling and reassembly when you move.

In short

If you want to use your existing space and work without a forklift, a mobile tyre racking system is the most flexible choice: from 3 m ceiling height, access at ground level, freely adjustable aisles, and when you move you simply roll it out. High-bay racking, shipping containers and tyre hotels each have clear drawbacks in access, storage climate or revenue.

How long does it take to prepare 30 sets of wheels?

An everyday task the day before the wheel changeover. The comparison: a high-bay racking store with a walk-on first floor and a lift for a maximum of 2 sets of wheels, against the LoggyStore system, where all sets stand at ground level on a single floor.

High-bay racking: 15 × 7 min. retrieval + 15 × 6 min. preparation · LoggyStore: 30 × 5 min.

Every day you have 30 sets of wheels to handle. Over a changeover season with 30 such days, that adds up to around 22 working hours.

And what if wheels keep getting bigger?

This problem will catch up with fixed racking in the coming years. It is why many businesses can no longer make full use of their high-bay racking today.

Narrow aisle between high-bay racking in a conventional tyre storage facility
Fixed high-bay racking: you cannot squeeze more out of the aisle.

Wheel diameters have grown substantially in recent years – not least because of the heavy wheels on electric vehicles. In fixed racking, the usable aisles keep getting narrower, and in some cases even retrieval from one side is barely possible.

Guided industrial trucks make things even tighter: large, heavy wheels end up above head height – against all logic – so that the truck does not catch on protruding wheels.

  • Flexible aisle width – wide in the changeover season, compact the rest of the year.
  • No forklift in the aisle – the racking rolls to the employee, not the other way round.
  • Heavy wheels stay low – all three tiers reachable from the ground.
“A fixed rack gets tighter with every model year. Fully mobile LoggyStore storage grows with you.”
Take back control

External wheel hotel vs. your own tyre storage

Many workshops store customers' wheels externally. It sounds convenient, but it often costs exactly what you wanted to save: hassle, space and money – for a service that seems to get worse and worse.

External wheel hotel

  • No immediate access, sets of wheels often late
  • Uncollected sets pile up
  • Damage or total loss possible
  • No additional revenue for you

Your own LoggyStore tyre storage

  • Your wheels – always within reach
  • Full autonomy over delivery & access
  • Stay in control – no third-party damage
  • Additional revenue for you

Heat, frost and condensation – affecting customers' property

A shipping container is quick to set up and seems inexpensive. For the stored wheels and your staff, it is a different story.

Heat in summer

Uninsulated steel heats up far above the outside temperature.

Frost in winter

Often well below freezing without insulation.

No ventilation

Heat and moisture stay trapped inside.

Condensation

Moisture condenses on walls and rims.

Wheels belong in dry, cool, ventilated storage – in existing commercial space, not in a shipping container.

Moving premises?

Your storage simply moves

Repairs · renovation · water damage · storage too small · landlord with other plans

With fixed racking, the worst case means: all wheels out, all racking dismantled and rebuilt elsewhere, every wheel back in. An enormous effort in time and money – your money.

The LoggyStore system, by contrast, stays mobile – even when fully loaded. Simply roll it out of the storage area and back in elsewhere. No days of emptying, dismantling, reassembling and refilling: the LoggyStore system simply moves.

And set up again elsewhere just as quickly.
23 minutes
That is all it takes for two people to evacuate around 1,000 wheels – racking units included.
Frequently asked questions

Storage options compared: answers at a glance

Is your own tyre store worth it compared with a tyre hotel?

With your own tyre store, storage fees and extra services stay in your business, the wheels are always at hand and transport runs disappear. Customers come to you twice a year, and every appointment is a potential sale.

Can tyres be stored in a shipping container?

It is possible, but risky for customers’ property: uninsulated steel heats up far above the outside temperature in summer, without insulation it often drops well below freezing in winter, heat and moisture stay inside, and condensation settles on walls and rims. Wheels belong in dry, cool, ventilated storage.

Do I need a forklift for a tyre store?

Not with the LoggyStore system. All three tiers are reachable at ground level, the units can be moved fully loaded and 3 m ceiling height is enough. High-bay racking, by contrast, usually needs a forklift or lift.

What if wheels get too big for my high-bay racking?

In fixed racking the usable aisles get narrower as wheel diameters grow. With the LoggyStore system you set the aisle width yourself: wide in the changeover season, compact for the rest of the year. Heavy wheels stay low, and the units can also be added to existing high-bay racking.
